Back in August I ran across a social justice contest put together by the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) and my local comic shop, The Vault of Midnight. It was attached to a speaking event at U of M with guests Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell (the writer and illustrator of the graphic novels March).
All submissions for the contest were to focus on some form of a social justice story, e.g. racism, gender discrimination, bullying.
I chose to focus on bullying because it’s always been a sore spot for me, having been bullied through out much of my adolescence and because my friend’s son has been going through a tough time at school.
I had originally planed on posting this back in September after the judging had taken place, but unfortunately the speaking event has been postponed until late November, which also meant that so is the judging.
At any rate, I got tired of waiting for the judging to happen so here it is!
